Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
