A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays
The winter break offer a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid snapping at relatives. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling announcements came out over the festive period, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. However, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
